Fan fiction is what literature might look like if it were reinvented from scratch after a nuclear apocalypse by a band of brilliant pop-culture junkies trapped in a sealed bunker. They don’t do it for money. That’s not what it’s about. The writers write it and put it up online just for the satisfaction. They’re fans, but they’re not silent, couchbound consumers of media. The culture talks to them, and they talk back to the culture in its own language.

This is probably the best, non-judgmental description of fan fiction I’ve ever heard of in main stream media.

“L-Listen, I know that we’ve only just met and this may sound crazy but… I think I like you…”
The moment she sat down on her assigned seat after introducing herself in front of the whole class, Kitahara looked at her new seatmate who was, apparently, looking at her seriously. She stared at her for a moment, wide eyed and brows up, slowly nodding her head afterward after coming up with no proper response at all from the sudden confession. Furrowing her brows, she turned her head towards her teacher as she discreetly moved her chair away from her odd seatmate.
